This mini tour will be a truly unique experience in Crete.
It is easy for everyone, you will get to know the semi-wild nature of Crete, by taking a walk in the gorge. You will see the local flora and learn how we use it. In the small caves you will see how monks lived in the old days and in there you will see famous hagiographies and small churches. At lake you will have the chance to make an easy walk around and see-listen the birds.
But, the unique part of your tour is that you will also learn the Greek script and you will learn how to write in greek combining this with painting. At the end, you will take your art piece at home with you as a souvenir (the art class is optional)
And of course, you will be able to enjoy traditional Cretan food and coffee at the mountain villages.

What to Expect

  • Agia Kiriaki Church
We start the trip with Agia Kiriaki, the small monastery, which is situated at the entrance of the small gorge. The gorge is protected by the Unesco for the botanicals plants, and we will see them with markings along the length of the gorge. The walking is easy. We will visit the small caves which are in the gorge and they have small churches inside. You will learn the history of the Saints and you will see amazing iconographies. There are some stairs to the caves, if you have back or leg problems, it is better to skip this part of the trip.

  • Lake Agias
Next stop at the Lake of Agias, with the small falls and the old mill. We will go a small walk around. The area used to be a swamp and it was turned into a lake in the 1920s, in order to supply with water the Small Hydroelectric Station of Agia The lake receives water from the White Mountains In Lake Agia 130 plant species can be found, with a large part of its bank being covered by reedbeds, while willows and plane trees are forming a riparian woodland. Lake Agia is one of the most important locations for the avifauna of Crete, with over 200 species having been observed there.

We stop to an old traditional taverna, with view all the Chania area. Here you will have a mini painting & calligraphy lesson and you will have the chance to learn the greek letters. You will learn to write small words and your name in greek. Then you will have a small art piece to take it home. The lesson is optional. After the lesson we will have light lunch. At the end we will go to the village for a small walk and we will have the traditional greek coffee.
